The RBA cash rate is currently 4.10% as of March 2026. This is the benchmark rate that influences all home loan interest rates in Australia. Lenders add their margin on top of the cash rate to set their variable rates.
The RBA meets approximately every 5–6 weeks. Check the RBA website for the exact schedule. Markets price in expected rate moves — your lender may adjust rates before or after the official announcement.
If 2- and 3-year fixed rates are below variable rates (as they are currently), fixing provides payment certainty and potentially lower costs in the short term. However, you lose flexibility — limited extra repayments and no offset account benefit on the fixed portion.
